MIDEM Music Publishing Deals 2009

MIDEM, the world's largest music convention and trade show is wrapping up today in Cannes, France. There are over 8000 attendees from 80 countries.

Many deals are finalized during MIDEM and many new relationships forged.

Here's a round-up of deals made and proposed at MIDEM 09:

  • Eagle Rock Entertainment has acquired a 20% stake in i-concerts, Transmedia’s cross platform live music channel.
  • The pan-European deal between Universal Music Publishing Group and French society SACEM will be DEAL (Direct European Administration and Licensing). SACEM and SDRM (Society for the administration of mechanical right of Authors, Composers and Publishers) licenses and administers the online rights owned and/or controlled by UMPG with those works from SACEM’s repertoire for multi-territorial online and mobile use in Europe.
  • IODA announced new deals with Scorpio (France), Munich Records (Netherlands), Som Livre (Brazil) and the Caribbean Music Group (based in Trinidad) will all now be digital distributed to digital retailers, mobile outlets and subscription services around the world via IODA.
  • Alt rock band Placebo signed with PIAS for its first pan-European deal for  PIAS’ marketing and distribution arm.
